Conceptual Ecologies of Information

How is the story of information is crafted, told, and shared? This research stream analyzes and engages the varied histories, philosophies, and ethical dimensions of information, attending to both artifactual form and sociotechnical function. Understanding these relationships is central to the upkeep of healthy information ecosystems, responsible development and ethical use of emerging information technologies, interrupting experiences of datafication and extractive surveillance enabled through protocols and procedures of data colonialism, and strategically developing of critical theory useful for building a more relational, compassionate, and justice-oriented library and information profession.
